Ranked #5
Kindroid
Backstory, memories, response style: you write all of it, and the character holds to it.
What we liked
- +Backstory, key memories and response directives are all editable fields
- +Selfies, voice calls and short video in a single subscription
- +An actual API, which almost nobody else in this category offers
What we did not
- −No real free tier: you pay before you can evaluate
- −The setup screen is intimidating on day one
- −Nearly all the personalization work falls on you, where other apps hand you a character ready to go

What you are buying
The controls everyone else hides from you. Backstory, key memories, voice, response directives, visual identity: every one of them is an editable field. The result is worth exactly what you put in, no more and no less.
The ratings back it up: 4.8 on iOS, 4.46 on Google Play. The people who stay are happy.
The deal, stated plainly
Budget a few hours to build your character and understand the memory types. Accept that entry fee and the depth is unmatched in 2026. Want something that works in five minutes, and you will hate it.
That upfront work buys you something specific on memory: you write the facts in directly instead of waiting for the app to notice them. In our four-day memory test across six apps, that is what separated the three apps with a real fact store from the ones that only widen the context window and call it long-term memory.
Most competitors hand you a ready-made character and a couple of sliders to nudge. Kindroid starts from a blank page. Backstory, key memories, response tone, guardrails: none of it is pre-filled, all of it is a field you write yourself. That is what makes the result this precise, but it is also why the learning curve looks nothing like Candy.ai or Nomi, where you pick a look and are talking within a minute.
Does Kindroid allow NSFW content?
No filter, and you set the boundaries yourself: because the response directives are editable fields, you decide what the character will and will not do. It is the most controllable product in the ranking on this front, and also the one that demands the most work up front.
Write a directive telling the character to initiate and describe the act in graphic detail, and it will follow that instruction exactly, no watered-down compromise.
That same controllability is what makes it a solid pick for scripting a precise BDSM dynamic and having it hold over time, covered in our dedicated guide.
Three things nobody tells you
Images are slow. Up to 7 minutes for a single one. That is not a detail when you want to illustrate a scene.
Model updates sometimes forget your settings. Despite the memory architecture, you have to go back and fix things.
The real price is not the entry tier. The MAX plan runs $59.99 a month, one of the most expensive on the market. And there is no meaningful free tier: you pay for at least one month just to evaluate.
Verdict
The right pick if building the character is part of the fun. Otherwise Nomi gives you 90% of the result without the configuration evening.
