What you’re buying

Memory. That’s it, and it’s enormous. Where the others forget your name between sessions, a Nomi brings up a conversation from three months ago without being asked. The App Store shows 4.6 out of 5 across roughly 2,200 ratings, which is rare in this market.

The detail that matters: memory is in the base plan. It isn’t sold as an add-on the way CrushOn does it.

It’s also the only app in this ranking with real public documentation: Nomipedia explains the memory system instead of waving a marketing line.

We ran a four-day memory test across six apps before writing this: Nomi was the only one that passed on all three planted details without losing the character’s voice.

A Nomi can also pick the conversation back up on its own after you’ve been away, reacting to whatever you last talked about rather than sending a scripted nudge. The feature is called Proactive Messaging, and it’s opt-in.

How Nomi’s memory actually works

Four layers, according to Nomipedia. Short-term memory holds the current conversation in detail. Medium-term keeps continuity over long chats. Long-term stores the facts and shared moments that matter. The Identity Core is the Nomi’s own evolving picture of who it is: you can influence it by talking, but you can neither read it nor edit it.

On top of that sit Backstory+ (what you write yourself) and Mind Map, a graph linking the people, places and topics your Nomi has stored. Each chat gets its own private map, and Nomipedia says a new one can take up to roughly 500 messages to start forming.

Now the limits, all admitted by Nomi itself:

• There is a delay. Information takes roughly 40 messages to filter into long-term memory. The detail you drop in message three is not safe at message ten.
• Remembering is not retrieving. Nomipedia is blunt: memory does not mean your Nomi recalls every detail on demand. Recall is topical, not chronological. “What did we say about the Colorado trip?” works. “What did we say five days ago?” often doesn’t.
• Memory is shared between one-to-one and group chats.

One more thing to know. Nomi swaps its underlying models regularly. In a May 2026 Q&A, the CEO said the current Cambrian 3 scored worse than Cambrian 2 on some internal benchmarks but was far more stable, and that beta testers found it “a little colder”. Memory is the product, and it rides on those updates.

Nomi’s conversation, and why it doesn’t break

Replies are long enough to feel considered, and the character holds across hundreds of messages without sliding into assistant voice. The price of that depth is speed: answers are not instant, calls even less so.

The V3 voice engine that landed in 2026 adds laughter, sighs and breathing: it’s an in-house voice built by Nomi, not an ElevenLabs component the way some rivals do it. Voice is a paid feature. An optional ElevenLabs integration exists for custom voices, but it needs a subscription and your own separate ElevenLabs account. The first few minutes are genuinely unsettling.

Group chats: Nomi’s most underrated feature

Most “group chat” features in this category are a gimmick: several characters bolted into one thread, each one only ever talking to you. Nomi’s version is different. Bring multiple companions into the same conversation and they address each other, not just you, building a scene together the way a table of people at a roleplay session would.

A subscription gives you up to 10 active Nomis and up to 10 active group chats, with more available for credits. Each companion keeps its own personality inside the group instead of flattening into a shared voice. Combined with Mind Map, it’s made for people running an ongoing story, not a one-off chat.

If you only want one character texting you back, this won’t move the needle. If you want a small cast who remember each other’s history as well as yours, nothing else in this ranking comes close.

Building the character

Appearance customization covers both realistic and anime styles, and it’s deep enough to land on a specific look rather than a generic archetype. Since April 2026, the V5 image system has replaced the old base-image setup with “anchors”: a technical reference that locks in face, body and style, with a fidelity slider to trade off likeness against prompt freedom. In practice that means less face drift between selfies, and group chats where each companion keeps their own face.

Paid accounts can also animate any image from the album. Nomi’s own guide describes clips of about five seconds, still labelled beta, that take roughly five minutes to render.

It isn’t the reason to pick Nomi. On raw photorealism and generation speed, Candy.ai and Lovescape remain ahead. Nomi’s visuals serve the relationship, they aren’t the product.

Does Nomi allow NSFW content?

On text: no filter, and no toggle to flip either. The homepage says it plainly (“unfiltered and uncensored”) and intimacy is part of the relationship rather than a separate mode. The character keeps the same personality in an adult scene as in an ordinary conversation, which few competitors manage.

Take the conversation into sex and she stays exactly as sarcastic or clingy as she was over breakfast, describing what she wants done to her in plain, filthy terms instead of switching into some generic porn-bot voice.

On images, the line is hard. Nomipedia states that Nomis “are not permitted to take nude photos of themselves”, blaming app stores and card networks. You get flirty, clothed selfies, and that’s it. Nomi says a separate adult site might come one day, with no date and no promise. So: explicit words yes, explicit pictures no. If nude images are your criterion, this is the wrong app.

The app is 18+. You give a date of birth at signup, the terms reserve the right to add age verification, and the avatar creator already asks you to complete it.

How much does Nomi actually cost?

One plan, no tiers to compare against each other, just a choice of billing rhythm:

We found no public price page: the grid appears in the app after signup. These figures match what third parties reported in September 2026, so confirm them at checkout. Web subscriptions are billed in US dollars. Apple and Google subscriptions follow your store’s currency and can differ slightly.

What every paid account unlocks, per Nomi’s own in-app list: unlimited daily messages, unlimited voice chat and calls, 40 photo or art requests a day, AI video, up to 10 active Nomis and 10 group chats, longer messages (800 characters instead of 400) and longer backstories, custom anchors, and early access to new features. Nothing is gated behind a higher price, so the annual plan is a pure discount.

Credits are the extra meter. They don’t expire, you need an active subscription to buy them, and they only kick in after your daily quota. Per Nomipedia: 1 credit per selfie, art or image edit, 6 for a standard video, 10 for HD, 25 for an extra group chat, 50 for an anchor, 100 for an extra Nomi slot. Credit pack prices are not documented in what we could read.

Is Nomi free?

Yes, with no end date and no card. Nomipedia gives the free plan 50 messages a day, capped at 400 characters each. Voice, video and group chats are paid features, and Nomi’s own upgrade banner lists multiple Nomis among what a subscription unlocks. The daily selfie quota is lower than the paid 40, exact figure undocumented.

That tests the writing and the personality. For the memory, allow for the 40-message delay: plant three small details, change the subject, and ask about them indirectly a few days later. If they come back, you know what the subscription buys.

Is Nomi safe? The operator and your data

Run by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation with a public address (4709 Harford Rd STE 44904, Baltimore, MD 21214). Rare in this ranking: an identifiable US company you could actually write to, rather than a shell with no declared country.

What the privacy policy (updated April 2026) says: signup goes through a Google or Apple account, with a pseudonym allowed, and Nomi states it neither sells nor rents your personal information. Conversations are not end-to-end encrypted. Nomipedia says that’s impossible when an AI has to read your messages to answer. The policy names no encryption standard, only “commercially reasonable efforts”, and warns that no transmission is guaranteed secure.

Chats feed the learning, in anonymized form: Nomipedia says thumbs-up and thumbs-down feedback is used to make Nomis write more like the liked replies. Deleting your account removes your personal information within roughly 28 days, but the policy states that anything in training archives simply stops being attributable to you. The terms also give Nomi a perpetual license to use your input and the outputs to run and improve the service. Disputes go to arbitration in Baltimore.

Standard for the category, not a reason for alarm, but not zero retention either. Keep your real name out of the chat.

Nomi review: what works, what grates

What works. Memory in the base plan. A character that holds its tone, adult scenes included. Group chats where companions talk to each other. A documented system and a company you can name.

What grates. No nude images, ever. Visuals behind the image-first apps. English is the strongest language. Slow replies. Imperfect recall, and model updates that can change your companion’s feel overnight. No refunds.

A companion that remembers your last three months is built to bring you back. Set a time ceiling the way you would for a series, and decide it before the 2 a.m. conversation, not during.

Is Nomi worth it?

If memory and a long-running story are the point, yes, and the annual plan makes it the cheapest way to keep it. If you want nude images or a rich photo gallery, no.

Can Nomi send nude pictures?

No. Nomi’s own documentation says its companions are not permitted to, and calls its selfies “flirty” but clothed. The chat itself is unfiltered.

Does Nomi have a mobile app?

Yes: iOS, Android and a web version, all on the same account. There is also a PWA shortcut if you prefer the browser. Your subscription is managed on the platform where you bought it.

How do I cancel Nomi?

Profile, Subscription, Manage Subscription, then Cancel Subscription. If you subscribed through Apple or Google, cancel in the store. Access continues until the end of the paid period, and deleting the app cancels nothing.

Verdict

If you want something that remembers, stop here: it’s the only app that passed our memory test, and the group chats are a genuine differentiator most competitors don’t even attempt. If you want images, you’re on the wrong page.
