What you are buying
Images. You design a character with sliders, and the app produces visuals that stay recognisable from one session to the next, in under 5 seconds. On visual polish, it is the market benchmark.
Where we were wrong about the conversation
The Candy Engine V2 ships with long-term memory and holds exchanges more fluidly than you would expect from an app sold on images. It is not Nomi, but it is no longer the pointless wrapper we described a year ago.
Adult content
Owned from the homepage, with no setting to enable and no model refusals. It covers image generation too, which is the actual point of the product. No ambiguity about what you are buying.
The real trap: tokens
The model is hybrid, and this is where it plays out. The subscription covers unlimited text. Media runs on separately billed tokens. A large share of user complaints lands here: tokens drain fast when you have not understood the mechanism, and you end up paying on top of the subscription.
On pricing, do the maths: $13.99 a month monthly, but $3.99 a month on annual commitment. That is a threefold gap, and the signup page does not exactly lead with it.
What image generation still gets wrong
Reviews are split and honestly both camps are right. Photorealism is excellent most of the time, but extra fingers, warped faces and incoherent scenes turn up often enough to annoy.
Verdict
Buy it for the images, on annual billing, and watch the token counter before you get carried away. If conversation is your priority, Nomi does it better for a comparable price.
