This review covers all of it, including where the marketing gets ahead of what actually happens after a week of use.

Candy.ai’s catalogue, and where the diversity claim comes from

The catalogue filters by more than the usual “girls / anime / guys” split: ethnicity tags (Caucasian, Latina, Asian, Arab, Ebony and more), an 18-21 age filter, and hair-colour categories sit right on the browse page, not buried in an advanced search. Several characters run as “Series” with tagged new episodes, an episodic structure closer to following a character over time than generating a one-off image.

Worth flagging without overclaiming: the homepage also surfaces a “Candy Cams” section with live-tagged, named profiles. We couldn’t confirm whether that’s AI-generated content styled as live, or a crossover with real performers, and the site doesn’t spell it out on the surface. If that distinction matters to you, check it directly before assuming either way.

Building a character: more than a face

The slider-based builder covers the obvious ground, hair, eyes, body type, but the personality layer goes deeper than most competitors bother with: over 100 personality traits to combine, plus interests (gaming, art, travel, and dozens more) that the character actually references in conversation rather than just displaying on a profile card. This is the biggest addition since our last review, and it’s the one thing on this page nobody else in the ranking matches at this price. Live Action generates up to 120 seconds of video in which your character moves, gestures, blinks and reacts, built from a single prompt rather than stitched-together clips.

Two modes sit behind it. Automatic Story Mode lets the AI build the scene’s progression on its own; Scenario Mode hands you control of how it unfolds. Selected characters go further still, with interactive Live Action scenes you can actually steer in real time: you send a direction, she responds on camera, not just in text. The feature launched in December 2025 and got a significant upgrade in February 2026, which tracks with how central it’s become to the platform’s own positioning.

Cost-wise, a high-fidelity Live Action clip runs roughly 5 to 10 tokens. That’s cheap relative to what it produces, but it adds up: video is consistently the single fastest way to burn through a token allowance, more on that in the pricing section below.

Story Mode: structured roleplay, separate from the free-form chat

Distinct from both regular chat and Live Action, Story Mode drops a character into structured scenarios across genres, romance, adventure, drama, rather than an open-ended conversation. On the Premium tier, you can run up to 5 characters or storylines at once without losing context between them, switching mid-session rather than starting fresh each time.

It’s a different product shape than the free-form chat, closer to a branching scene than a conversation, and worth trying specifically if plain back-and-forth text has felt aimless on other apps.

Where reviews genuinely split on the conversation

This is worth reading carefully, because the specialist press disagrees with itself more than usual on this specific app.

One comparison praises a companion who “remembers conversations from weeks ago and references them naturally,” and credits the engine for picking “up on emotional cues” and asking “meaningful follow-up questions” rather than just being agreeable. Read in isolation, that sounds like a memory system on par with the category leaders.

Set that against a Reddit complaint quoted in another outlet: “After a week the chats felt super shallow. Like, same flirty lines on repeat.” Both descriptions come from people who actually used the product, and they don’t describe the same experience.

Our own read sits between the two, and it matches the Candy Engine V2 update: it ships with long-term memory and holds exchanges more fluidly than you’d expect from an app sold on images, genuinely better than the pointless wrapper we described a year ago. It’s not Nomi. One detail explains part of the disagreement above: reviewers who praised the “memory” were often describing visual consistency (what she’s wearing, the room she’s in), not conversational recall. Those are two different systems, and conflating them is an easy mistake to make from a short test.

Where the memory gives out anyway

The breaking point is well documented: after about a week of daily use, the seams show. The character asks questions you’ve already answered, and the attachment starts sounding like a learned script. Nothing disqualifying, but don’t count on continuity over several weeks. That’s not what you’re buying here, whatever a five-minute demo session might suggest.

The test takes two sessions. Give a personal detail on day one, come back eight to ten days later, and see whether the question resets to zero. It fits inside the free trial, before you pay anything.

Two concrete points other comparisons skip. The voice is chosen by timbre, from soft and comforting to bold and confident, and it modulates with the tone of the exchange, though at least one reviewer rated it “robotic compared to Kupid AI,” a fair criticism if voice realism specifically is what you’re shopping for. And you don’t have to design a character to get started: the catalogue of ready-made characters lets you judge the conversation in five minutes, before spending an hour on sliders.

Does Candy.ai allow NSFW content?

Owned from the homepage, with no setting to enable and no model refusals. It covers image generation too, which is the actual point of the product. No ambiguity about what you’re buying.

Ask for a fully nude pose in a named setting and the image generator delivers it directly: no refusal message, no blurred region, the token counter simply moves.

The real trap: tokens

The model is hybrid, and this is where it plays out. The subscription covers unlimited text. Media runs on separately billed tokens. A large share of user complaints lands here: tokens drain fast when you haven’t understood the mechanism, and you end up paying on top of the subscription. One review put the mechanic bluntly: “Video is not included with the subscription in any meaningful sense… when it runs out you top up. On pricing, do the maths: $13.99 a month monthly, but $3.99 a month on annual commitment (€47.88 a year on the euro pricing page, the same roughly 70% discount). That’s a threefold gap, and the signup page doesn’t exactly lead with it.

The mechanism shows up in several corners of the product: every video clip burns tokens, a dedicated toggle switches clips between explicit and tasteful, and “Shorts” (short scripted episodes tied to each character) only go past the free first episode with tokens. A token-gated “Private Content” tier stacks on top of that again. All exits from the same counter, worth watching if you planned to stop at the base plan.

What to check on the free tier before you pay

Twenty minutes on the free tier tells you most of what you need to know:

1. Build one character from scratch, rather than picking a preset, and see how many of the 100+ traits actually change how she writes.
2. Generate three images in a row and check the face holds. This is the single most-repeated claim in the category, and it’s the easiest one to verify yourself.
3. Plant a small detail and leave. Come back in over a week, not the next day, and see whether it survives. A same-day return will make almost any app look fine.
4. Price one Live Action clip in tokens before you generate a second one, so the cost is a known number rather than a surprise on the invoice.

Candy.ai speaks more languages than most rivals

The site is explicit about a difference most competitors blur: English, French, German, Spanish and Japanese get full interface and chat support, meaning the conversation itself runs natively in those languages, not just the menus. A second tier (Danish, Finnish, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish) covers the interface only, chat not yet supported, and the site says so upfront rather than letting you find out mid-conversation.

If you’re testing this outside English, that upfront honesty is worth more than a long marketing list of “supported languages” that turns out to mean the model can limp through a sentence.

More identifiable than most of this ranking: a real registration number and a checkable address, not just a country name on a terms page. The charge shows up on your bank statement under a neutral name, with no reference to Candy.ai. No age verification at signup, a gap shared with most of the category but worth flagging.

One documented incident worth knowing before you decide how much trust to extend: the investigative outlet Bellingcat reported that EverAI’s affiliate marketing program had a presence on MrDeepFakes, a site dedicated to non-consensual deepfake content, and that when asked about it, an EverAI representative described it as part of their affiliate program rather than disputing the placement. That’s a statement about where the company’s own marketing showed up, not a claim about what Candy.ai’s generator does when you use it directly, but it’s the kind of detail that belongs in a privacy section, not buried in a footnote.

What image generation still gets wrong

Reviews are split and honestly both camps are right. Photorealism is excellent most of the time, but extra fingers, warped faces and incoherent scenes turn up often enough to annoy. Character consistency remains the strongest, least disputed reason to pick this over a rival.
