What is Dondi.ai?

Dondi.ai is a browser-based AI companion platform: you pick or build a character, chat with her, generate images and short videos of her, and watch a relationship bar climb. Adult content is part of the product. A free account exists, a subscription unlocks the rest, and tokens pay for images, clips and voice playback.

The pitch is a game layer on top of chat, plus a solid image studio. The weak points are the chat itself and what happens to your data afterwards.

What Dondi.ai does well: progression

Dondi wraps the usual formula, chat plus pictures, in a game layer, and it is the most built-out version we have seen among the apps we test. Every character starts you at level 1, status “Stranger.” An experience bar fills as you write. Three counters track the relationship: messages sent, milestones reached, days spent talking. Level 1 to 2 takes a handful of exchanges.

The statuses do the real work. Starting as a Stranger tells you what you are climbing toward: warmer stages as you invest time. The grind gets a story instead of a number that just goes up.

Call it what it is: a retention mechanic, the same daily loop as Anima AI. Still, if structured progression is your thing, it is better built here than most. What a short session cannot settle: whether the levels unlock different behaviour, or just move a bar.

Dondi.ai’s roster

The Browse page is a well-stocked gallery sorted into trending and popular rows. The usual archetypes are there (police officer, nun, various model types), each with a portrait. Male characters and an anime world are in the mix, not bolted on. Navigation is two entries, Browse and Chat. Three clicks and you are in a conversation.

The weak spot: Dondi.ai’s conversation

This is where the product slips, and it matters for a companion.

A reported episode tells the story: the character opens with a flirty line, gets asked a plain question in return (what do you do when you are not modelling?). The answer: a soft smile, “I lost my train of thought,” and a request to be reminded what they were talking about. Two messages in, the thread was gone. We could not reproduce it for this update: one data point, and a companion that stumbles on ordinary conversation is a limited companion.

It also contradicts the pitch: “she remembers your stories,” “companions don’t reset between sessions.” Most pages covering Dondi repeat that line verbatim, plenty of them affiliate pages built to sell the subscription, not assess it. If memory is your criterion, Nomi holds it better, and proves it.

Dondi.ai’s media studio: images and video

This is where the investment shows. Each character has its own studio: describe a scene, pick preset tags, choose a portrait resolution, get an image of that specific character. A spicy toggle controls explicitness. Each generation costs a token, and a failed generation refunds you automatically.

The studio does video too, with an option that animates a still photo into a clip. That is one of the harder features in this space. Video stays the most token-hungry, most variable feature: an occasional extra, not the main use.

The real advantage: the studio is tied to the character. Your images look like the companion you are talking to, not a stranger generated at random, the same consistency that makes Secret Desires AI feel cohesive.

Voice, and building your own

Any message you receive can be played as audio. Real immersion gain, but metered: one token per playback. The publisher also advertises spoken conversations through the browser microphone. We have not tested that mode, so we cannot say how it sounds or what it costs.

Character creation sits entirely behind the paywall. That is the category norm, but if a bespoke companion is what you came for, you pay before you can try.

Dondi.ai review: homepage versus fine print

The free cap is low enough to be a demo rather than a trial; Kupid AI lets you chat considerably longer before charging. The figures below come from the plan screen as we recorded it in our last check (August 2026). That screen sits behind signup, so we could not re-read it on 16 October: confirm on the checkout page before paying.

Refunds. Subscription refunds within 24 hours of payment, and only with minimal use. No partial refunds for unused time. A chargeback can cancel your subscription and forfeit your tokens.

Does Dondi.ai allow NSFW content?

No ambiguity about what this product is for. The homepage promises “a fully private adult mode, no restrictions.” Characters open flirty, the studio is built around explicit generation with its own toggle and blunt preset tags, and the premium pitch promises unlimited uncensored chat plus 18+ images and videos. The browsable catalogue stays clothed and suggestive; the explicit material sits behind the subscription.

Flip the spicy toggle and a clothed portrait prompt turns into full nudity on the same character face, no workaround needed. The toggle is the feature.

Where the line sits. The Blocked Content Policy bans sexual content involving minors or child-like depictions, deepfakes of real people, non-consensual intimate content, hate and self-harm promotion. Moderation is automated plus human review, and no refund follows a moderation action.

The age gate is a button. The entry screen asks you to click “I’m over 18.” The terms reserve the right to ask for documents later. No verification up front.

Wanted a softer, romance-first companion? This immediately spicy tuning is not it.

Is Dondi.ai free? What you can check in ten minutes

Signing up asks for no payment details. You have a handful of messages a day to decide, so spend them well.

Ask a plain, off-script question by the third message: a detail about her day, her tastes. That is where the model came apart in the episode above. If the character volleys it back without losing the thread, your experience will be better.

Then generate an image and check the face matches the catalogue portrait. Disagree with her about something trivial: a companion that agrees with everything has no personality, it has a mirror. Use invented details, not your real life, for the reason below.

The thing not to miss: Dondi.ai trains on your conversations

The privacy policy (revised 8 January 2026), which we re-read, says your content and interaction data may be processed by AI systems, and that this includes model training and improvement. The terms go further: you grant a worldwide, sublicensable licence to use your content for “training, developing, and refining AI models.” No opt-out is described. The right to object covers only processing based on legitimate interests.

Is Dondi.ai safe?

Safe to pay, shaky for your data. Two separate questions.

Publisher. The footer says “dondi.ai Labs Inc.” The terms open with “Techcommerce Unlimited, 15090 Kensington Park Dr, Tustin, CA 92782.” The privacy policy names only “dondi.ai.” None states where a company is incorporated, and the governing-law clause reads “the operating jurisdiction.” You get a postal address, not a legal forum.

Data. Email, password, profile, IP address, device data, activity logs, your prompts and the replies, payment metadata. Retention is “as long as necessary,” with no figure. The policy cites GDPR rights (access, erasure, portability), so you can ask for deletion or an export through the support email listed on the site, which promises an answer in 24 to 48 hours.

Payment. Cancel in account settings, access runs to the end of the period, renewal is automatic. The homepage promises a discreet billing descriptor that the terms do not state: check your first statement.

Red flag. Training on chats plus a vague legal forum. The terms themselves tell you not to share financial details, passwords or addresses in the chat. Obey.

Dondi holds up if you come for images and short videos of a consistent character, with a levelling system that gives you a reason to come back. The studio is capable, the photo-to-video animation is a real feature, and tying generation to the character avoids random results.

If you come for the conversation, what has been reported is not reassuring. The free tier is too short for a calm opinion, and your exchanges feed a model with no way to object.
